Ada Got a Bongo

And she thought it was really cool for about 15 seconds.

Chameleon Face

Here's Ada looking a lot like her Grandma Monson. I realize the second picure doesn't have Ada in it, but she was there listening so I think it counts. We spent Saturday at a Manhattan Stake block party and Kyle's new/old band, Shake Down At The Majestic rocked it out (my favorite song is Run for Your Life. Reminds me of the party scene in Breakfast at Tiffany's). Ada danced along and a good time was had by all.

Best part of the whole day was that "Meet the Mormons" poster and the cut-out footprints leading into the church building. I really wish I had something funnier to say about it and if I was Jessie I could come up with something awesome. I did overhear some great conversations from people walking by but Kyle informed me that it's only funny if you were there. So I guess I'll end this thing now.

Too Late?

I'm not even sure what the point of this is since it's been over a month since we got back from Disney World, but here's a few random pics anyway. Besides, I'm on a blogging roll. Even though it appears that my small-to-begin-with readership has died off (according to the distinct lack of comments lately).

Day 1: Epcot and Magic Kingdom

Ada's first ride ever--It's a Small World. She clearly loved it. My Dad made us ride it again later on in the trip. I wanted to die.

Day 2: Animal Kingdom

Sister-in-law Serena joined us after the first day, all the way from Alaska. It was so much fun having her there.

On the Safari ride.

Taking a peek

Bug's Life. Love this picture.
Animal Kingdom ended up being my favorite theme park. It seems like it would be cheesy but Disney just does everything so well, down to each blade of grass.

Day 3: MGM and Epcot

In line for the Toy Story ride. This was my overall favorite ride. And again, Disney does everything so well even standing in line was entertaining.

Taking a break with the General.

Day 4: Blizzard Beach and Magic Kingdom

The girls

Kyle got to join us for the last day. He spent it hanging out with Ada.

And crashing. We didn't get any pics, but Ada splashed down the lazy river and the wave pool.

The whole group minus my mom.

I'm happy to report that doing 4 days of Disney with an 8 month-old isn't as bad as you'd think (or at least with this 8 month-old. DW probably seems about like home for a city kid). Ada was fairly content being schlepped around all day, going to bed at midnight, waking up freakishly early and missing every nap.

The end.

Hanging With The Ladies In New Jersey

We met up with Beth tonight in Hoboken for early dinner at Amanda's--one of my favorite restaurants. You can't beat a $14 prix fix meal that also happens to be delicious. I've known Beth for 6 years?! Is that even possible? She was my first friend in the city. The last time she saw Ada, Ada was 6 weeks old (she looks a little bit different now). Love these two girls.
And thanks to my Mom for keeping Ada so well dressed. That lady's got good taste.

I Never Thought I'd Be On A Swing

Ada, Jacob and Carter. Carter was born the day before Ada and Jacob is two weeks younger--So basically they are all the same age. Fun.

3 Days in Montauk and All I Have to Show For It Are These Lousy Pictures

And sweet, sweet memories.
We headed out Thursday night to celebrate D.P.'s 30th birthday. Ada got lots of attention. A ton of seafood was consumed. Naps were taken. Hammocks were swunged in. Rock Band was played. The beach was enjoyed. We ate mass amounts of junk food. Overall it was a good weekend. Ada's going to be bored come tomorrow morning.
In baby news--Ada is finally doing better on solids and she's cutting her first two teeth (front bottom). Being the observant mother that I am, I didn't even notice until her doctor pointed them out. She's now obsessed with flicking her tongue over them. They must feel pretty weird (but not painful?!) She also started saying "mama", but I don't think she knows who that is so it doesn't really count. Last thing--she's starting to practice standing on her own without any support. She lasts oh, maybe 10 seconds before she goes tumbling down.

2 of these people are pregnant.

For how much I love the city, it sure is nice to get out every once in a while. Kind of the same way I feel about spending time with Ada...

Outta Here

Here's a picture from a new photo shoot for Jessie. People who either knew me as a toddler or who have seen pictures of me as a toddler--doesn't she look a lot like me in this pic? I think she generally looks more like Kyle.
We are heading to Montauk for the weekend. I'm excited to get out of the city for a long weekend, even if the weather isn't supposed to cooperate.

9 Months

I refuse to believe it.

Ada not looking so much like a baby anymore.

New stats
Height: 30 inches 94th percentile
Weight: 19 pounds 50th percentile

Her whole "I no longer like solid food" shtick might explain the drop-off in weight gain. Apparently, after six months nursing doesn't cut it in the calorie department. Who knew? I always thought nursing was the end all and be all.
Eat baby, eat.

Crafty

I usually refer to myself as the Anti-Craft, but now that I'm officially a SAHM (something I never saw coming), I've decided to jump on the band wagon. And since my self-described success at making Amigurumi, I've gained the much needed confidence to pull out the ol' sewing machine (funny story that it's actually Kyle who bought it on Ebay 5 years ago and he's the only one who's ever used it). The last time I used one of these things I was 12 and boxer shorts with matching scrunchies were all the rage. I started out easy with this jingle ball and it actually turned out!! Sort of. If you don't look too closely you won't notice the terrible hand-stitching (on the part you have to leave open to turn it right side out and stuff it) and the fact that it's only semi-spherical. Now on to other endeavors....

Happy Mother's Day (to me)

There's nothing like your first Mother's Day to make you feel mature and responsible.

I guess she's worth it though.
