Halloween (I'd say preview, but this might be all there is).

Since our little church party might be all we are doing for Halloween this year (thanks to Sandy), I figured I might as well put these up now (just in case). This was Ada on her way there.  She originally wanted to be a robot but then switched to Superman (I have no idea where she found out about him. We just blame preschool for everything).  Luckily she's still young enough that I can pull this off without her realizing she wasn't really Superman. I bet I won't have such luck next year.

We did a cheesy little pirate cruise our last day in Clearwater. It was a hit.

Beach: 5

I would die for that skin (seriously, don't click on this pic. it will depress you).

Just one more post from the beach (Jessie--I promise!  And see how quickly I'm getting through these?).

Beach: 4

I was pretty proud of myself for letting him get that sandy and not stressing too much about it. Baby steps.

Beach: 1

I don't really know where to start with these pictures. There are so many from the beach that I LOVE LOVE LOVE, but I've got family waiting to see these so I'll just start by throwing these ones up.  Clearwater Beach was paradise.  The sand was so fine and white it looked/felt like flour, as you can see.  Perfect place with kids, especially now that Ada is a little bit older and understands you can't go running into the ocean all by yourself (not the baby. He would have wandered into that giant ocean and been gone in a flash. Talk about "going for it".).

Yapple Picking

We went apple picking last Saturday with Leann, Daniel and May. It was an ill-fated day and Kyle was the best sport ever (although he did say to me "I hope you got all of this festive crap out of your system. I never want to do it again). ha!
also--I'm finally learning how to use my camera properly (I know, I know. I'm ridiculous  It's only taken me 4 years).  So the exposure isn't at all consistent on these pics plus some blurriness   Gotta start somewhere though. And now a million pictures of Ada. I might be a little bit unhealthily obsessed with her...
east coast foliage
pumpkins and apples. tis the season.

these two are crazy for each other (well, him 100% of the time, her 90%)

9 Months

He's 9 months old and still the most pleasant little guy. He thinks he's ready to walk (which means some disrupted sleep), but other than that he is ALL smiles so I'll forgive him.

We haven't had his official 9 month check-up yet but he did get measured before his flu shot.
I think they said 30 inches for height (big surprise--he's tall) and an even 20 for weight.

Saturday at Maker Faire

Hey, it's me, The Dad, here for a quick update. Ada took me to Maker Faire on Saturday, and we had a great time. If you haven't heard of it, Maker Faire is all about DIY stuff--cars, bikes, robots, flamethrowers, costumes, whatever! Everything is touchable and hackable, and the rule of the day is "Safety Third." It's heaven for Ada.

The Maker Faire in San Mateo, CA draws well over 100K people each year. The one in NYC isn't quite as big, but there was plenty of cool stuff to play with, like...

A human-size version of the Mousetrap boardgame. A Rube Goldberg machine that shoots a full-size bowling ball through various contraptions, and culminates with a giant safe landing on a car. Yessssss!

Basketball-playing robots! Made by high school robot clubs here in NYC.

A homemade playroom made of wooden hexagrams all screwed together. Ada played in it for 20 minutes.

"Katy Perry," the magic unicorn. It's a carousel unicorn that shoots flames out of its horn, glitter out of its bum, and your beverage of choice out of its ****. Comes complete with a dance routine, apparently.

A table full of robots for Ada to mangle (and my friend Nat filming it)

A car you can draw on!

Cupcake Cars! Me: "Ada, you want to touch the car?" Ada: "I want to eat it!"

A space capsule!

Ok, not a real space capsule. But Ada was fooled.

Butterfly bikes!

Seriously, can you imagine a better Saturday for a young nerd-in-training?
