We stopped by the Natural History Museum sprinklers on our way to pickup Ada from preschool this morning. All in an attempt to survive this massive heat wave (crazy weather. It was 50 degrees and raining 2 days ago, and now BAM--90 degrees, freakishly sunny and humid. Such a bizarre Spring this year). This was Joseph's first time in sprinklers and it's fun having two kids that just go for it. I'm remembering Ada at about the same size here.

(focus issues strike again. argh).

Staten Island Ferry

Every New Yorker was in the ferry line for Governor's Island yesterday morning. The line literally went around the block. We fortuitously ran into friends on the train and went and grabbed lunch on Stone Street instead. And then, because I didn't feel like dealing with an epic fit, Ada and I jumped on the Staten Island Ferry (with every Russian tourist in NYC) while Kyle took baby home to nap.

She was pretty serious about the whole thing and yelled at everyone who obstructed her view. Crowded boat = lots of yelling.

New York Harbor

I apparently really like this shot. See below:
Preschool pick-up Friday afternoon.

View out the front window.

Those sailboats look like toys.

Taking pictures of ourselves taking pictures of each other.

Her shot.

On the way home. "We live here?"  Close.

This Weekend

Since I'm always threatening to over-instagram (and it's one of my pet-peeves so I really don't have an excuse), I figured I'd throw these up here as a better outlet.  This was after a movie Saturday morning. Making her gun-toting, motorcycle-riding grandfather proud.

Walking by Lincoln Center. Couldn't resist a good run around.

The Time Warner Building.  "I want to look at all the tall buildings".

Lunching.  Have I mentioned how nice it is when I only have to hang out with one of my kids?

Making wishes in the Columbus Circle fountain.

My favorite picture ever.  The Bowen's came to town and fun was had by all.

See? It was just like old times.

Magical. It helps to have such pretty subjects.

(shhhh. Don't tell Ada we hang out with her friends without her. It's crazy to think she only has about a month and a half of preschool left (well, it's really pre-preschool).

the Turtle Pond under Belvedere Castle (right before he got his hands in something nasty).

"Things Through Fences"

Big 'Ol Tree

Becca, Joseph, Lucas, Jacob. 4 uber-active kids = tricky photography.

I love these flowers at the Shakespeare Garden. They look like giant purple dandelions or something from a Dr. Seuss book.

I Love Unicorns

This is the best thing I've seen in a while. One of my sister's other nieces. I love it so much that I'm posting a video of someone else's kid on my blog.

Also, Joseph trying to sit down to slide? He...struggles. (and of course Ada is always doing some bizarre performance).

And then he'll sorta kinda get it, but something like this will happen:

Yesterday Morning

How can you say "it would be nice to only have one kid" while still making it sound like you adore both of your kids and are grateful for their existence? Because I am. I just try to take advantage of the mornings Ada is in preschool so I can briefly pretend I only have one. One kid is twice as easy to keep track of as two.  It's so nice, right Mom?

Bethesda Fountain:

Happy kid.

Joseph and Lucas. I was so put out when Megan waited to have kids 18 months after me (I'm a selfish creature). Turns out it's perfect bc Lucas can hang with Ada OR Joseph (So Megan--good job after all!).

Black Dumbledore (talking to his dragon, of course).

Sheep Meadow:

And my focus issues strike again (Lesley! Help!)

Leann plus baby Louise in there somewhere.

It's fun having a baby that actually loves me...

A Few More From DUMBO

From Nina.

She's always so serious about these things.

They do what they want.

Joseph hated it. Cried like a baby the whole time.

Ada trying to steal food from a baby.

And one more of these because I have no restraint:

Plus a video with so much background noise it's almost worthless. Blame the construction/subway trains zipping by/screaming children.

I've tried (and failed) so many times to get pictures at this exact location. And hey--I even made it look like we had the beach to ourselves today.

Attempt #5:

Throwing rocks.

Liam and Ada. I love these little friends.

The aforementioned rocks. There were lots of them.

Looking like a chimney sweep.

Now THAT is the very definition of a "toothy grin".

Nina's solo picnic with the babes.

Lonely girl.

The Last Few Days

The boy loves his accessories.

Rainy day activities Thursday morning.

Friday morning walk through Central Park. It really is that green--neon. Cool bird, yo.

The pond.

"helping" him down the slide. Miss bossy pants.

The worst name for a restaurant.

Hunger Games at the church street fair.

Train ride to dinner at Hill Country.
and then this:

I die.

Kyle finally has his perfect dance partner.

Channelling Wes Anderson. His words, not mine.

Falling asleep on command. His ability to do this is the single most unfair thing in our marriage. In life, actually.

At Washington Square Park this morning. So happy and then 2 seconds later... Poor, tragically clumsy Joseph.
